"Do yourself a favour - Just find a good story!" - Norman Jewison With a passion for the arts and an obsession with film, Chris Emery is a multitasker in every sense of the word, and is now working on various projects in the film industry. It was after watching Reservoir Dogs when he developed an interest in filmmaking, and was persuaded to pursue a career in the industry. He attended York University for five years where he focused his studies on film theory, history, writing and criticism, and digital media. During his time at York he began broadening his horizons and developing an interest in other divisions of the fine arts, including theatre, music, photography and design. Upon graduation he gained some working experience in the industry, where he developed his interest in the business of film, including producing, distribution and exhibition. One of his biggest passions is DVD, as he is an avid collector, a reviewer, and has previously worked in the DVD industry, authoring a wide array of projects with including Ginger Snaps 3, Project Grizzly, Shake Hands With the Devil, Punishment Park, the award-winning E3 "One Soul" DVD, and many others. He has even worked as a Project Manager for a major DVD authoring and production house, where he has worked with such studios as Alliance Atlantis, Lionsgate, Seville Pictures, and Miramax, and has even co-produced two DVD titles, 'Stupidity' and 'Why Can't I Be A Moviestar?', which can be purchased here. Not only a aspiring filmmaker and producer, Chris is also a video artist, photographer, writer, website designer, film reviewer, editor, programmer, producer, researcher, musician, and finally a beer connoisseur. While his primary focus is in the film industry, he does plan to pursue other projects in other areas of the arts and cultural sector. But his ultimate goal is to be a film and DVD producer and distributor. Some of Chris' current projects include: Toronto After Dark Film Festival - Chris works as the Director of Online Communications for Toronto's premiere showcase of international thrilling cinema. He joined the festival in its first year in 2006 and was primarily responsible for the grassroots marketing campaign for the festival, which included street and viral promotion and translated into one of the most successful launches for any international film festival. Along with his aggressive online campaigning, Chris also assists the festival with other duties including administrative and programming. Bottom of the Barrel - What started out as joke became a hit at York University. Bottom of the Barrel is a B-Movie festival that Chris ran and programmed, and he is giving new life to the program with a website and eventually another festival that would play at repertory cinemas in Toronto. The website contains reviews, columns, and lots of fun stuff relating to the appreciation of b-movies. MIJO - If you are looking for a do-it-all-do-it-right-do-it-now-audio-video-print-production company, look no further than MIJO Corporation, the multi-purpose, multi-million-dollar, media-based company that does work with all the major players in the industry. Chris currently works in their logistics department as a shipper and receiver. His future projects include producing more DVD projects, work as a distributor with smaller and larger film companies, write and publishing some short stories, plays and graphic novels, furthering his skills as a photographer, develop and program a Bottom of the Barrel film screening series, program for an internationally recognized film festival, and write and develop several feature-length projects with friends and cohorts. "Maybe no one watches Canadian films because they think it's good for them.... kinda like bran." - Scott Thompson |
